I hope the best thing I ever did for my career was turn down a job at one of the best ad agencies in the country.
It was ad sales role. I’m not a salesperson — I’m a creative.
After placing second at the National Student Advertising Competition and spending two years landing agency internships, I used my second degree to sharpen my design skills as a UX designer in the public sector. The work mattered, but the pace was slow — and I wanted to build things that lived beyond a screen.
So I left to find my way back to art direction.
I joined a fundraising agency and helped rethink what nonprofit campaigns could look like. Less guilt. More bold, big ideas. And it worked — my campaigns raised more money than any of my clients ever had.
The founders noticed and gave me seed money to bet on myself.
I spent it in two ways:
• I designed a tiny home.
• And I launched an experience agency — creating weird weddings and nontraditional corporate events. Full creative direction. Immersive world-building. Real stakes and clients.
Now I’m back at the agency door — with design chops, hands-on pitching and leadership experience, and a Top Student honor from The One Club’s Portfolio School.
My path is a record of every risk I said yes to — and every opportunity a girl from a town ending in –ville made for herself.
It doesn't follow a straight line. But it made me the kind of creative who can think, lead and build things that matter.
